Techniques for Gentle Dentistry
One of the worst things for many people is "the shot." But did you know that today's technology makes a number of things more comfortable for the patient? For example, there is a new 33-gauge needle that is made so thin you can hardly feel it, yet it is strong enough that it won't break during use or be a safety hazard.
Another gentle dentistry technique is nitrous oxide gas. sometimes called laughing gas, it is a mild relaxant that you breathe through you nose during your dental appointment. It makes everything go more smoothly, and at the end of the appointment you simply breathe oxygen for a couple of minutes and it comes completely out of your system so you can drive home.
For some people, distraction works best. So we have a television in the room, and you can watch your favorite program or a video during your appointment. That way you don't have to think about what we're doing.
If you're especially anxious, you may be interested in sedation dentistry. You can take a pill before your appointment and become so relaxed and indifferent that you may not even remember what happened. Ask us about it.
