Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
The Hylan Family couldn’t agree more and we want to help you in your quest to change the world.
That’s why we’re offering the Hylan Family Scholarship opportunity to a high school senior or a current college student who will be attending college in the Fall semester of 2017.
How important is a college education?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’s earnings and unemployment rates by educational attainment chart, a college education is important. There is an 8.3 percent unemployment rate for high school graduates compared to 4.5 percent of graduates with Bachelor’s degrees. And, no surprise, a Bachelor’s degree pays off in salary too ($1,066 in median weekly wages vs. $652 for high school graduates).
A college education is important these days, but we know that the road to a degree is paved with countless detours for the average student and that very few people can cover the full cost of an education by themselves.
That’s where we can help… with the Hylan Family Scholarship!
The Hylan Family Scholarship seeks to assist students pursuing further education who want to better the way they communicate with those around them and ultimately make the world a better place. We hope that this scholarship can assist a worthy student in their prospective field(s) and allow them to contribute to society in a positive way.
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Eligible applicant must be attending college in the fall 2017 semester or quarter, and includes high school seniors or current college students. The winner must provide documentation verifying that they will be a student for fall 2017 and provide proof that they will be furthering their education at an accredited community college, online college, or university. Winners of this scholarship must be willing to provide a photo of them with the scholarship award to Dr. Brad Hylan’s office for future promotion of the Hylan Family Scholarship.
How much is the scholarship?
The winning applicant of the Hylan Family Scholarship will be awarded $2,500.
Applicants are judged on the quality of the essay submitted. The award will be given to the student with the essay that is not only well written, but in our judgment is the most thoughtful and reveals the student with the most promise.
