These days everyone seems to me more stressed than ever.

Maybe it’s because of our “over-busy” life styles that include work or school, caring for family, endless kid’s activities, volunteering, dealing with health issues… the list goes on and on.

It’s no secret that millions of Americans are stressed out.

And it’s affecting our health and well-being. Check out these alarming statistics from the American Institute of Stress:

>> 44% of Americans feel more stressed than they did five years ago.

>> 1 in 5 Americans experience “extreme stress” that results in shaking, heart palpitations and depression

>> 3 out of 4 doctor’s visits are for stress-related ailments

>> Stress increases the risk of heart disease (40%), heart attack (25%) and stroke (50%)

>> Stress causes Americans to overeat, eat unhealthy foods and lose sleep.

April is Stress Awareness Month

We all know that stress can wreak havoc on our lives.

However, there are positive ways you can respond to it and keep your stress levels in check.

Make a Decision. Decide to get fit, eat healthier and stay that way — it puts you back in control.

Make Small Changes. Clear out the clutter or plan a weekend away.

Give Yourself a Pep Talk. Remind yourself of all the good things happening in your life instead of dwelling on the bad things.

Laugh More. Make time for good laugh with family, friends or co-workers, not matter how stressed you feel.

Take a Deep Breath. Take ten minutes a day to quiet your mind and thoughts and breath deep.

Lend a Helping Hand. When you take the focus off you and put it on others, your world becomes a lot brighter.

At Hylan Dental, while we focus on teeth, your overall health and well-being is also a priority.

That’s why we think it’s important to make healthy choices in all areas of your life so that you can keep smiling for a lifetime. Follow us on Instagram (@hylandental) and Facebook or check out many of our past blogs that focus on Wellness.
