Oral Hygiene | Brushing and Flossing
At Hylan Dental Care, we like to help patients improve their dental hygiene from the comfort of your own home.
When you come in to get your teeth cleaning, we will advise you on any problem areas you have and coach you on dental home care techniques.
Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is recommended.
Despite our busy lifestyles, we notice that most people are able to accomplish that. But another key factor in preventing dental disease is flossing at least once a day.
Flossing is an Important Ingredient of Good Oral Hygiene
We have already explained that flossing is incredibly important, so now let's discuss the proper way to floss.
To floss your teeth, just follow these steps:
- Slip about the floss (about 18 inches total) between the teeth
- Press it up under the gum gently
- Also wrap the floss around the tooth
- Scrap the floss away from the gum to clean your tooth
When people lose their teeth, most often it is from gum disease. And the most serious gum disease trouble spots are usually between the teeth, so it is especially important to keep those areas clean.
Your Oral hygiene practices need to include flossing to reduce your risk of Gum disease.
Also important is the fact that tooth decay often begins right at the spot where two adjacent teeth touch.
It’s a hiding place for bacteria if you aren’t flossing, but simply flossing once a day will greatly increase your chances of having a perfect checkup.

"Best dentist! My last appointment was the shortest ever. Got me in right at my appointment time and lasted only 20 minutes total from when I walked in. All the hygienists are friendly as well as the dentists. Never feel uncomfortable. Don't even have to go back to reception to schedule your next appointment after. Would recommend!"
