Are you afraid of the dentist or have you ever had a traumatic dental experience?

If so, sedation dentistry could be the best thing for you.

At Hylan Dental Care, our dentists have found that sedation dentistry techniques help patients to feel relaxed and at-ease during their appointments, and the feelings of dental fears and anxieties are lessened.

The ultimate goal our staff works toward is to ensure that every patient is 100% comfortable for the duration of their appointment, and we accomplish this through gentle dental care, a kind staff, and sedation dentistry anesthesia.

FAQs about Sedation Dentistry

What is Sedation Dentistry?

A lot of people are familiar with general anesthesia.

This is what they do in the hospital when you have an operation. But general anesthesia has certain serious risks, which is why it is often performed in a hospital setting.

Sedation dentistry is a milder form of general anesthesia; it is also known as sleep dentistry.

You aren’t completely unconscious, so you can breathe on your own and all your protective reflexes are functional. But you are so sleepy and relaxed, that you may not even remember your dental appointment.

One disadvantage of sedation dentistry is that you can fight it off.

Some people refuse to “let go” and fall asleep. But if you try to be cooperative, it is an extremely effective way to deal with dental fear.

Besides helping you sleep through your dental appointment, this is a great way to get a lot of dental work done in one sitting.

A dental appointment that would be much too long to be comfortable otherwise can be completed possibly without your even remembering it. When people have dental fear, often the hardest part is coming back for appointment after appointment.

Wouldn’t you love to get it all done in one or two sittings? In many cases, this can be done.

The Sedation Dentistry Technique

You will simply take a small pill before your appointment.

If you let yourself go, it will put you to sleep and then we will treat your dental needs.

During your appointment, we will use special monitoring equipment to monitor your vital functions, just to be safe. At the end of the appointment, we will rouse you and you will be ready to go home.

You will, of course, need to be escorted home because you will be in no condition to drive. So have a friend or family member help you with this appointment.
